The Clownfish Workshop
Taka Taka

Clownfish can change their sex based on their habitat for mating purposes. The social structure of a clownfish group is based on hierarchy of dominance. At the top is the most aggressive female who is also larger. If this one is removed from the group, mostly by death, one of the largest and most dominant males becomes a female and takes the lead. This year we create a group performance based on individual gendered or genderless characters who define and negotiate our individual and group urgencies, needs, leads and treats. Unlike the clownfish social structure, we try to create an environment of non-dominance where we can all decide together, not based on rhetorics, but rather based on the erotics of our collective gaze. How can we take decisions in order to be able to breathe outside of an aquarium for caring for each other and by respecting each other’s freshly made characters? How can costume, make-up, masks and movement help us in this polylogue?

TAKA TAKA identifies as a professional drag-thing and edu-curator who produces performances as art director for the Amsterdam cruise club Church. Taka Taka sees drag as an amplified voice, whose purpose is to communicate, problematize and propose methods according to local (Amsterdam) conditions. Taka Taka is the godmother of the House of Hopelezz, a sister for others, mother of the drag king House of Løstbois, and proud daughter of Jennifer Hopelezz. Taka Taka sees life through the lens of Dragtivism by producing weekly parties and para-educational strategies for the margins of the marginal LGBTQIA ++ community including political and gender asylum seekers, friends with the virus, misfits and party monsters.
