Doing Magic — Enchantment and Prophecy in a World of Illusions

Both Technic and Magic are used by us to change the world. However, Technic serves the accumulation of power whereas Magic, on the contrary, protects life and its value.

The magic was in the way the world was put together.

Magic is the persistent belief that there is another world — and the defiant act of summoning that world into being.

From divination to alchemy, from witchcraft to mysticism, and, of course, art, magic has always been an instrument for those who refuse to accept the established order. Magic protects what Technic attempts to control.

Doing Magic invites you to view magic not as fantasy or make-belief, but as a critical and lived practice. How can we use enchantment to undermine power? How can we use prophecy to gain insight into other realities? How can we reconnect with the natural and the cosmic?

This year, Studium Generale dives into the spells, rituals, and forms of rebellion that reshape our realities. Together, we will explore magic as a feminist and decolonial tool — a way to see through the illusions of control by politics and Big Tech, and imagine new possibilities beyond them.

With love and wonder,
